2019 Parade Grand Marshal
Robin Harmon Newsome
Coach Newsome was inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame this year! She joined Russell Williamson as the only people ever inducted from our area, and the only person to be inducted as both a player and a coach.
In addition to the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame, Coach Newsome is also a part of the KHSAA Dawhares Hall of Fame and the Morehead State University Lady Eagles Hall of Fame.
As a Sheldon Clark Lady Cardinal, Coach Newsome made it to the state tournament all four years of her high school career. She averaged 33 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds per game her senior year and finished her high school career with 3,098 points. She was a member of the Kentucky All Star team and was invited to the USA National Junior Team tryouts.
As a Morehead State Lady Eagle, she holds the four place position on the all time scoring list and 5th on the all time assist list. During her collegiate career her teams went 86-36 and she still holds the record of most games played as a Lady Eagle.
In her professional career, Coach Newsome coached the Lady Cards team for 25 years, winning more than 500 games and 3 regional titles. She also has numerous district titles under her belt.
To say that Coach Newsome is well versed in the game is an understatement. She loves the game, but most importantly she loves her kids. She gives them 110% and expects the same from them.
Her devotion to the youth of Martin County is one of the many reasons we are proud to have Robin Newsome serve as our Grand Marshal!
